Pool Party Essentials: What's In Your Bag?

IMG_8374.jpg

Did you hear the great news?? Summer is just around the corner (well for most of us), if you live in the Midwest, it was literally  just  snowing there, so just bookmark this article and read it in about 3 months once the weather warms up! ANYwho… for the rest of us, with Summer being right around the corner, this can only mean one thing… POOL SEASON!!! I look forward to pool season like I look forward to my birthday every year! I would pretty much consider myself to be a “professional pool goer” so over the years I have perfected the perfect pool/beach bag. If you want to be comfy and entertained at the pool. Keep reading!

Mini Bluetooth Speaker

Ever been to the pool, and the music they’re playing SUCKS? Problem solved… bring your own! Nothing ruins an otherwise perfect pool day like bad music. Make sure you pack your fully charged speaker (bonus if it’s water proof), and no matter what everyone else is listening to, you can be certain you have tunes that you love!

Skincare – Sunscreen & Lotion

OK, this is honestly the most important one. Make sure you have sunscreen. I can’t emphasize that enough. SPF should be at least 30. Apply generously before you get to the pool, and don’t forget you must continue to reapply as the day goes on depending on how long you’re there. I like to start with lotion and then alternate between a spray and lotion for reapplication. Where it pertains to skincare, most people think sunscreen is where it starts and stops, but let me tell you, there’s a lot more. Next, let’s tackle our lips. Lip balm should be applied frequently, and that should have a SPF of at least 30 as well. Trust me. Lips get sun burned also! Next, make sure to have lotion to apply as needed. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten out of the pool to dry off and relax and moments later my skin is dry and ashy! Not a good look!  Finally, be sure to bring aloe vera gel as a just in case in the event you get too much sun and need to soothe your skin.

Goggles

Throw a pair of goggles in your bag just in case. I know most times we’re at the pool just relaxing and looking cute, but on the off chance you decide you want to do some actual swimming (And WHAT??!?! Get your hair wet!!) it’s nice to have a pair of goggles on hand just in case!

Beach Towels/Towel Holders

I bet this seems obvious, but trust me, it’s the most forgotten item when headed to the pool! Invest in a nice plush over-sized beach towel to sit on and for drying off. Also, while not mandatory, I think it’s worth it to invest in towel holders to hold the towel securely in place when you’re lounging. No one wants to deal with fixing their towel every 5 minutes because it keeps falling down. I purchased these a few years ago and they work perfectly!

Reading Material

This is another one that most people forget. Consider you’re at the pool to relax, chill, and cool off. That said, there is plenty of down time. Bring a magazine or the latest best seller you are interested in. if nothing else, it can be a conversation starter!

Healthy Snacks

Laying out in the sun all day can definitely work up an appetite, so be sure to bring a few light healthy snacks to keep your energy up. A few I recommend: Almonds, Popcorn, Babybel Cheese, or Beef Jerky. You don’t need to bring anything too heavy. Just light snacks that can keep you satisfied throughout the day.

Water Bottle

One of the most important things to remember while you are at the pool is to STAY HYDRATED! I know personally when I go to the pool, I like to have a champagne or two. This coupled with the fact that you are out in direct heat is why it is so important to alternate each alcoholic beverage with water so you do not become dehydrated while sitting in the sun.

Plastic Drinkware

Bring cute plastic cups for your pool side cocktails! If you’re at a party, it helps distinguish your drink from everyone else’s, and also, it’s nice to feel like you’re drinking out of a wine glass even if it is plastic!

Extra Clothes

So your pool day is complete. The last thing you want to do is head home, or to whatever your next activity is in damp clothes. I always like to bring a simple change of clothes that way I’m prepared for anything that might pop up!
