Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree!
If I had to pick my favorite part of Christmas, it would hands down be the decorations!!! They’re just sooooo festive, and literally an instant mood booster! Everything from the snow (real or fake), the Christmas music, the presents, the baked goods, the parties, fun with family and friends, and like mentioned before...the DECORATIONS! And to be clear, by decorations... I’m talking about the focal point...the TREE!
That said, let’s just get into what you came here for!! You want to know how to decorate a tree that looks like a professional did it, because let’s just get real for a hot second. We ALLLL know how to decorate a tree that has no real design to it … you know, where you just kind of make sure the ornaments are evenly spaced apart, and everything kind of matches! But after browsing through pinterest, this year, you want a tree that looks like the ones at your favorite department store!!! We want a glam tree that makes everyone oooh and ahhh.... Right? Keep reading for 5 easy steps to get there if you’re not a professional!
Step 1: PICK THE TREE
This is definitely personal preference and based on your space. Maybe you have a lot of room and want a 12’ show stopper, OR... maybe you want several smaller trees that can each be decorated with their own theme. Whatever you choose, just make sure it makes sense for your space! I chose this 5ft tree from At Home. It was the perfect color, and perfect size for my home!
Step 2: LIGHTS
I personally think a pre-lit tree is the way to go. Let me just be honest, I remember as a child untangling those strands of light, and as an adult, I just don’t have time for it! If stringing lights is your jam... no problem...just make sure you select the type of light that is going to fit your design best.. if you have smaller dainty ornaments, then you probably don’t want to go with big bulky globe lights! Just make sure everything is balanced out size wise,
Step 3: ADD THE FLUFF
When I say “fluff” (which clearly isn’t the technical term), I’m talking about the picks and sprays. These are add on’s that add extra color and make your tree look more full. Check out Amazon for a wide variety, but bottom line, every professionally decorated tree has them!
Step 4: ADD CATEGORY 1 and CATEGORY 2 ORNAMENTS
OK, I think ornaments fall into 2 categories. Category 1, are the ornaments that set up base, color, and theme of the tree.. you know the ones that are matchy matchy...like the colored balls, stars, snowflakes, etc. Category 2 ornaments are the personal ones, these may not match, but they have special meaning behind them. Like first married Christmas, baby’s first Christmas, special interests, etc.
Step 5: ADD THE TREE SKIRT & TOPPER
Now that you have your tree exactly how you want it to look, it’s time to add the finishing touches that tie the tree together. That would be the skirt and the topper. The topper should stand out, and I personally think should have some bling or sparkle to it that way it’s the focal point. The skirt should be a nice design that matches the overall color theme! Once you complete this step, it’s time to CELEBRATE!
And now…it’s time for the grand finale! Pour yourself a glass of bubbly, and sit back and admire your creation! I hope these 5 simple steps make decorating your tree this year easy, breezy, and most of all FUN! Happy Holidays!!
Love you BYEeeeee!!
