New Year, New Goals, New You!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year!!! You know, the beginning of the year when everyone makes all of their resolutions?!?! They promise they’re going to lose weight, eat healthier… stop drinking! Ha ha HA! Well, I don’t know about you, but I can say as I’m on the cusp of the beginning of the New Year, it just feels different. I mean wildly, uncomfortably, and excitingly DIFFERENT! As opposed to freaking out and over analyzing all of it, I’ve decided I’m just going to “lean in to it” so to speak, get on the ride and let 2019 be the absolute greatest!!! We have a few tips that we think will help you seize 2019 too! Let’s get into it!
Write It Down
OK, you’ve decided you want to make improvements in your life this year! So, let’s do things a little differently! Let’s take the bull by the horns, and really be intentional about what you’re trying to accomplish this year. To start with, come up with 2 - 3 specific goals that you really want to focus on. Write them down and make them visible. They should be in a location where you can view them every single day. A few options are writing down a few key words on your bathroom mirror with a dry – erase marker; get a sticky note and put it on your computer at work; or put up a nicely written out list on your fridge. Any of these options would be great as long as it’s in a location where you can see them every single day. One of our favorite more creative options is a Vision Board. You can really personalize this and make it look very cute which is motivation in itself!
Execute
People get so caught up in the act of making their goals to begin with that they don’t consider the fact that they need to come up with a plan and actual steps to execute. Start by breaking down each goal and figuring out exactly what steps you need to take in order to be successful at whatever it is you are trying to do, and then…. do exactly that! Every day that you walk past your bathroom mirror with your goals scribbled on them, or pass your vision board, you should remind yourself to try to implement one of the steps that you should be doing to get yourself one step closer to the goal you are trying to accomplish.
Shout it From the Mountaintops
So, at this point you’ve decided what your actual goals are. You’ve come up with a realistic plan that you can actually execute. Now comes the challenging part. STICKING TO IT!!! It’s all fun in the beginning of the year because it’s new and fresh, but as we actually get into our year, reality sets in. Making changes is hard work! You have to stay committed! Make sure you share with your closest friends and family what your goals are because they are the accountability and will keep you honest. So, when you say you are cutting sugar completely out of your diet and you run into your neighbor at Krispy Kreme… instead of it being awkward (like, SO awkward!!) Your neighbor can gently remind you of your goals. Overall this is a “win-win” situation because it gives you a quick little boost and can help you get right back on track!
Check & Reassess
Once you get into the groove of things and have started to form habits that support your new goals it is a good idea to review things and see where you’re at in June/July. If you’re happy with the progress you’ve made since January, then keep up the good work and continue on! But if you are a little behind, and don’t see much of a change since January... don’t fret... just get back in there, give yourself a little “tough love pep talk” and kick it up a few notches!
Don’t Give Up!
The main thing to remember is to keep going. Throughout the year, you are bound to come across challenges, and set-backs. But you have to remember that nothing worth having is going to fall into your lap. So if you’ve got some big goals this year, put your all into it, don’t give up, and keep pushing! Comment below your tips for staying on track this year with your new goals, and let’s do this together!
