It's YOUR Wedding! Make it Your Own!
Getting engaged is one of the most special moments in any woman’s life! Right after the big proposal you are likely talking about your upcoming wedding pretty much all day to any and every one that has ears! And don’t get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, I mean it’s to be expected. However, you have to be mindful that each person you excitedly share all of the fun details of your wedding is going to have an opinion. A STRONG one, that quite frankly may not line up with what your ideas are. After hearing enough of everyone else’s ideas of what your wedding should look like…. at the end you could end up having their dream wedding, and not yours.
If you ask any woman what her dream wedding is, trust me. She will likely be able to tell you exactly what she wants down to the very last detail. I always knew I wanted my wedding to be outside, casual, fun, extremely “cutesie”, and of course lots of PINK! I have an extremely quirky and off-beat personality, and this definitely shows in every aspect of my life from fashion to home décor, so trust me when I say it definitely showed in my wedding. Let me paint a picture for you... for starters, it was a morning wedding because my favorite food is brunch (OBVI), and I wanted it to be catered by my favorite restaurant, Waffle House! I wanted it to be outside in my parents backyard, and I wanted everyone to be comfortable, so I as well as all of my bridesmaids wore blinged out tennis shoes! As far as music goes, I LOVE to sing, and when I say love, I mean I basically think I’m a professional singer, so my DJ was a professional Karaoke DJ, and I pretty much MC’d and sang during the entire reception! Oh, and I almost forgot.. my wedding dress was PINK, and all of my bridesmaids and guests wore white! When it was all said and done, it was exactly what I wanted, and it was the perfect wedding customized just for me (I mean, me & Chauncey!!LOL), and even now all my friends and family still tell me it was such a fun wedding and was absolutely adorable. However, while I was planning the wedding, I got so much push back from almost every direction. Instead of letting everyone else’s opinions and thoughts take over, I stood firm and insisted that no matter how crazy or weird my vision appeared, I was not going to cave and have the normal wedding according to societies norms!
While Chanda was a fun and quirky bride, I was the complete opposite! I have always dreamt of a large wedding in some swanky ballroom! I wanted my wedding party in all white which everyone thought I was INSANE for doing! I mean if I heard, “ why do all white they are going to upstage you” or “its your day you should be the only one in all white” I was going to scream!! If you know me then you know its impossible to out stage me! LOL, but I seriously am over the top and I like to think I naturally command a room so all of the opinions about my bridal party wearing white were just super annoying! Jack and I only wanted to spend $20,000 tops on our wedding but the budget quickly grew to about $50,000 and even though my wedding was everything I dreamed of, I left the day regretting all the money we spent. We had an awesome DJ, fabulous photo booth ( which was the highlight of our wedding ), even better food, and my dream wedding dress and shoes, but all the money spent was crazy to me! Number one reason why you should also stick to what you want and never let anyone influence your decision making. I mean I was the little girl that wanted to be cinderella and wear glass slippers on my wedding day, guess what? I did just that! I found the perfect clear Christian Louboutin’s with swarovski crystals so when I tell you no detail was left out, it wasn’t! Even with all the options and ideas being thrown at me I still kept my dream alive! Maybe spent a few dollars too many, but my wedding was POPPING so in the grand scheme of things I was still able to live out my dream! My wedding was super romantic with candles everywhere, white draping, and decked in bling! It was literally a winter wonderland in September! I am still in awe of how well my dreams came to life! My advice is to stay the course. Things will be stressful, issues will arise, and your emotions will be all over the place but it will be worth it in the end as long as you stay TRUE to you!
XOXO, MRS. ALL PINK EVERYTHING
